Interflex Group has installed a ROTOCON RFP 450 10-colour flexo press as part of its investment in expanded label and flexible packaging production.
The new press, now installed and in final commissioning, will support Interflex’s production of labels, shrink sleeves, unsupported films and board applications up to 400gsm. The investment comes as the company marks its 20th anniversary and seeks to strengthen its position in higher-volume and higher-value packaging print segments.
According to ROTOCON, the RFP 450 is configured for multiple converting processes, including printing, laminating, foiling, varnishing and die cutting in a single pass. The press is designed to handle film production at speeds of 150–200m/min, supporting Interflex’s focus on longer-run flexographic work.
Interflex CEO Eric Singh said the company’s growth has been built on volume
production, with the new press selected to support that model. He added that the investment will allow Interflex to move further into packaging formats such as shrink sleeves and roll-to-roll work, where customers may require printed reels without additional finishing.
The installation also reflects the long-standing relationship between Interflex and ROTOCON, which began with Rotoflex rewinders in the mid-2000s. ROTOCON said the latest project builds on its installed base and support network in South Africa.
ROTOCON Durban general manager Akhmuth Sayed said local technical support and tooling capability remain important for converters working to shorter lead times. The company said it is also developing additional die-making capacity to support customers operating its equipment.
Interflex is planning to develop in-house studio capability over the next two years, with the aim of becoming involved earlier in packaging design and production planning.
